2021 UN Food Systems Summit – Action Track 1 Public Forum

Organized By: UN Food Systems Summit

When: Tuesday, May 4, 14:00 – 16:00 PM CEST

Length: Two hours

About: Moderated by Ndidi Nwuneli, founder and board chair of Nourishing Africa, co-founder and managing partner of Sahel Consulting, and member of the AT1 leadership team, this free public forum will give participants a chance to share their ideas for transforming our food system. Part of the UN Food System Summit Action Track 1 (AT1), the event will include a discussion of the role UN Member States can play in relation to the strategies AT1 is developing.

CGIAR COVID-19 Hub Seminar: COVID-19 and Implications for One Health Research

Organized By: The International Food Policy Research Institute and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) COVID-19 Hub

When: Tuesday, May 4, 9:30 – 11:00 AM EDT

Length: 90 minutes 

About: Currently, researchers from the CGIAR COVID-19 Hub are working to provide policy recommendations and address urgent issues in agriculture and infectious disease. In this free virtual seminar, staff from the CGIAR COVID-19 Hub will share these strategies. Panelists and presenters from the agricultural and medical field will join them to discuss the One Health approach and its implications for food systems and the agricultural sector in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Towards a NYC COVID-19 Food Response in 2021 

Organized By: Community Food Funders and the NYS Health Foundation & Philanthropy New York

About: In this event, food policy researchers from the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute, the Laurie M. Tisch Center for Food, Education & Policy and the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center will discuss NY Food 20/20, a joint project from the three food policy centers. The discussion will explore the impact of COVID-19 on hunger and food systems, providing initial findings from the project and goals for food policy in 2021. Speakers include Nicholas Freudenberg and Craig Willingham of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute; Pamela Koch and Jen Cadenhead of the Laurie M. Tisch Center for Food, Education & Policy; and Charles Platkin and May May Lueng of the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center.

Food Edge Virtual Summit

Hosted by Priya Krishna, New York Times food writer and best-selling cookbook author, the event will discuss Jew and Ho’s new cookbook and the history of Chinese American food.

Food for Thought: Albanian Gastronomy: From Identity Dilemma to Rural Renaissance

Organized By: The Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) and The Green Space

About: Join MOFAD, The Green Space and chefs from RRNO, an organization that works to preserve Albanian gastronomy, for a virtual discussion of Albanian cuisine during communism and in the post-communist years. The event will feature RRNO chefs Entiana Osmenzaza, Gazmend Kapllani and Nikolin Kola in discussion, and will include cooking demos and the launch of RRNO’s newest project, the NÀNA Cooking Project, a network of women-owned/led guest-houses in rural areas of Albania.
