Decolonizing the Food Industry with Zoe Adjonyoh & Pierre Thiam

About: Writer, chef, and food justice activist Zoe Adjonyoh and social entrepreneur & culinary ambassador Chef Pierre Thiam will be having a conversation about Adjonyoh’s new cookbook, Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen:An Introduction to New African Cuisine – From Ghana With Love. Both speakers are committed to decolonizing the food industry and promote West African cuisine in Europe and the Americas. The webinar will also include a cooking demo and recipe for attendees to create a Ghanian dish in their own homes.

The Compost Mix: Monthly Compost Support

About: The GrowNYC School Garden Team will be available to chat with education professionals and parents interested in starting or continuing a school garden program in New York City. The GrowNYC team will help attendees create a vision and future plan for their garden, troubleshoot any problems that may have emerged at the garden, and connect with needed resources to ensure NYC school gardens are the best they can be.

Introduction to Beekeeping

The Mississippi Farm to Cafeteria Conference

Rain, Rain, Go Away: Building Rain Gardens in NYC

About: The GrowNYC School Garden Team will host a virtual workshop to show attendees how to create a rain garden in NYC. Rain gardens allow rainfall to be absorbed into the ground (therefore nourishing the plants) rather than draining into the sewer system. In this workshop, attendees will learn about the various different types of rain gardens and which native plants are best suited for rain gardens.

Planning Your Urban Vegetable Garden for Spring

About: CEO and co-founder of Brooklyn Grange, Ben Flanner, will be teaching a class about how to make the most out of small, urban vegetable gardens. Attendees will learn about different types of planter boxes, soil, and planting schedules.

Seed Starting and Propagation 101

About: Brooklyn Grange’s Long Island City Assistant Farm Manager and Community Coordinator, Jane, will teach attendees all about seets, including the basic structure of different seeds, propagation, germination, and various methods of seed starting at home. The class will include a live demo, a tour of the greenhouse, and the opportunity to take home a seedling.

Roots, Resistance, and Reclamation
Organized By: Food Tank and Spelman College
When: March 31, 2022, 5PM EDT
About: As part of their Nourishing America Tour, Food Tank has partnered with Spelman College to host a symposium and conversation about the work of Black women in our current food system. The speakers will focus on three major questions: “How are Black women embracing the roots of African Diasporic food systems, culture, and practices?”, “How are Black women resisting the current food system through AI?”, and “How are Black women reclaiming food and land?”
