The Special Session of the 48th Plenary of the Committee on World Food Security 
Organized By: Committee on World Food Security 
When: June 4, 2021 9:30AM – 12:30PM, 2:30PM – 5:30PM CET
Length: Six hours total
About: The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is an inclusive international platform for people from all over the world to work together to reduce food insecurity. The Committee will be hosting its 48th Plenary in June 2021, during which time they will officially endorse their Policy Recommendations on Agroecological and Other Innovative Approaches

Side Events from the 48th Plenary of the Committee on World Food Security 
Organized By: Committee on World Food Security 
When: June 3, 2021 and June 4, 2021, multiple sessions throughout the day. 
Length: 90 minutes per event
About: In addition to the main session of the CFS’s 48th Plenary, there will be ten side events that discuss topics of food security and nutrition in more detail. Examples of some of these events include healthy food in Russia, issues in land governance, and family farmers during times of crisis.

The Art of Slow Eating: An Evening with Two Culinary Pioneers
Organized By: Slow Food NYC
When: June 7, 2021 7:00 PM  8:00 PM EDT
Length: One hour
About: Chef Peter Hoffman’s new book, What’s Good: A Memoir in Fourteen Ingredients, will be released on June 8, 2021, and Slow Food NYC is inviting everyone to join the virtual book launch event. Chef Hoffman will be joined by fellow author Cathy Erway, and the two will talk about what it means to “eat slow” and how people can eat slower whether they are dining out or enjoying a meal at home.

UN Food Systems Summit Lever of Change – Innovation Public Forum
Organized By: United Nations Food Systems Summit
When: June 7, 2021 9:00 – 10:00 EDT
Length: One hour
About: This will be the second public forum, four panelists will talk about the Food Systems Summit’s Action Tracks for the global food system: ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all, shift to sustainable consumption patterns, boost nature-positive production, advance equitable livelihoods, and build resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks and stress. The discussion will focus on the importance of innovation in supporting these goals.

Fish of the Day: Plastic
Organized By: Our Last Straw & Restore Regenerative Foodware

About: On World Oceans Day this year, Our Last Straw is partnering with Restore Regenerative Foodware to host a panel discussion about the plastic pollution in our oceans and some innovative emerging technologies that confront this problem. The panel’s goal is to raise awareness about the issue and potential solutions, while encouraging a better understanding of oceanic ecosystems.

Enriching and Diversifying Diets – UN Food Systems Champions Network Panel Series
Organized By: Food Tank, International Fund for Agricultural Development & Global Alliance for the Future of Food

About: The final panel in this partnerships series about transforming the world’s food systems, speakers will come together to talk about “Enriching and Diversifying Diets.” Past topics from this panel series included “Investing in a More Resilient Food System” and “Agroecological and Regenerative Solutions for Stronger Communities”, among others.

Juneteenth: Celebrating the Legacy and Culinary Traditions of Black Texans
Organized By: Museum of Food and Drink
When: June 17, 2021 8:00 PM – 9:15PM EDT
Length: 75 minutes
About: This event will be a conversation and cooking demo focused on the food and drink traditions of Black Americans on Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the 1865 day when slavery was ended in the state of Texas. Dr. Carol Bunch Davis will lead a discussion about the holiday’s culinary traditions, then Chef Joi Chevalier and Chef Chris Williams will share two dishes passed down in their families.

Food Safety for Urban Gardeners

About: Small gardens, such as community gardens and home gardens, are often excluded from federal food safety regulations. However, home and community gardeners should still know the tips and tricks to ensure food produced in their gardens is safe, nutritious, and free from food-borne illness. This workshop will provide knowledge about garden food safety best practices.

About: Authors Von Diaz and Daniela Galarza will have a conversation about their experiences documenting, sharing, and writing about Puerto Rican cuisine.
