Community Fridges in South Beach/Willowbrook

Community Fridges are public refrigerators that are projects enabling food to be shared within the community. Unlike food pantries, Community Fridges encourage community members to put food in and take food out as needed and with no limit. These Fridges are located across the five boroughs, organized by community members, for community members. Donations are provided from organizations as well as neighbors, and everyone is encouraged to take what they need and give what they don't need. The below list includes all community fridges within the neighborhood from the Map of NYC Community Fridges

* The Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center cannot confirm whether or not community fridges are monitored, regulated or organized by food assistance agencies or organizations, therefore we are unable to confirm food availability and/or food safety. The Center advises community members not to take any prepared food without a date written of when it was cooked or stored. There are no regulations mandating what can go into fridges and how long food is stored, nor how often Community Fridges are cleaned, organized, and maintained. For more information about ensuring food quality and safety, click here and here.
