Supermarkets, Delis, Bodegas & Retail Food Stores (Offering Delivery)
This list below includes all retail food stores within the neighborhood from the New York State Retail Food Store Open Data and a Google Maps Places API search with keyword search terms “bakery, convenience store, deli, food, grocery, supermarket.”
- For delivery services such as DoorDash, Instacart, FreshDirect, GrubHub, Peapod, Postmates, Shipt, delivery.com, Seamless, Yelp and UberEats, an email address and credit card is required for registration.
- The listed apps do not accept SNAP (EBT) payments for delivery, but many retailers do IN-STORE.
- The SNAP Retailer Locator allows anyone to locate nearby SNAP-authorized retailers by entering a street address, city, and state, or zip code. Enter your starting location and select a retailer or map point to get details and directions.
- Delivery fees range from around $0.99 to $10, but most fees are waived if you spend over $10 or $15 in the app (for independent grocers, this may be higher)
- Many delivery services are flooded and there may be extra long wait times, unavailable products and/or no delivery possible.
The Food Policy Center team is in the process of verifying the status of any retail food store listed without a phone number.
Please call stores before visiting, as their services (take-out, delivery, benefits such as SNAP) may be changing frequently due to COVID-19.

Community Fridges in East Harlem
Community Fridges are public refrigerators that are projects enabling food to be shared within the community. Unlike food pantries, Community Fridges encourage community members to put food in and take food out as needed and with no limit. These Fridges are located across the five boroughs, organized by community members, for community members. Donations are provided from organizations as well as neighbors, and everyone is encouraged to take what they need and give what they don't need. The below list includes all community fridges within the neighborhood from the Map of NYC Community Fridges.
* The Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center cannot confirm whether or not community fridges are monitored, regulated or organized by food assistance agencies or organizations, therefore we are unable to confirm food availability and/or food safety. The Center advises community members not to take any prepared food without a date written of when it was cooked or stored. There are no regulations mandating what can go into fridges and how long food is stored, nor how often Community Fridges are cleaned, organized, and maintained. For more information about ensuring food quality and safety, click here and here.
