Farmers' Markets in Central Harlem

To ensure the below farmers's markets are open, please call or check the listed websites for the most up-to-date information.

Many farmers' markets accept cash, SNAP/EBT, debit/credit, WIC and Senior FMNP coupons. They may also offer Health Bucks for EBT users -- for every $5 spent in EBT, customers receive a $2 Health Buck coupon to purchase additional fruits and vegetables. For an updated list of farmers' markets near you (including days/hours of operation) visit nyc.gov/health and search "farmers markets."

*During the winter season, markets accept Health Bucks but may not distribute them.

Community Fridges in Central Harlem

Community Fridges are public refrigerators that are projects enabling food to be shared within the community. Unlike food pantries, Community Fridges encourage community members to put food in and take food out as needed and with no limit. These Fridges are located across the five boroughs, organized by community members, for community members. Donations are provided from organizations as well as neighbors, and everyone is encouraged to take what they need and give what they don't need. The below list includes all community fridges within the neighborhood from the Map of NYC Community Fridges

* The Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center cannot confirm whether or not community fridges are monitored, regulated or organized by food assistance agencies or organizations, therefore we are unable to confirm food availability and/or food safety. The Center advises community members not to take any prepared food without a date written of when it was cooked or stored. There are no regulations mandating what can go into fridges and how long food is stored, nor how often Community Fridges are cleaned, organized, and maintained. Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) offering assistance with SNAP applications  Many CBOs provide help completing SNAP applications and screening applicants for eligibility.

  • They DO NOT provide interviews (the final step of the application process) - this is only done at the HRA locations listed above.
  • Due to COVID-19, interviews may not be required or may be completed by phone. HRA will contact you if they need more information after you apply. For the Site Finder, enter your address and choose Site Type “Food Stamp Center” to find a CBO offering assistance with SNAP applications close to you.
  • It is difficult to confirm the status of these organizations, so please always contact them before visiting. The Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center is continually reaching out to try to verify opening hours and temporary closures.
  • If you cannot go to a location, you can request reasonable accommodations (if you are working, elderly, or disabled; if you have problems with child care; if you have trouble traveling to a SNAP Center). Call HRA’s infoline at 718-557-1399 (free language translation services are available) or contact HRA online here.
