Local Government
The local government has recognized the multitude of food insecurity issues affecting East Harlem residents and taken steps to target hunger and obesity problems and improve access to healthy and affordable foods.
- Community Board 11 – Community Board 11 is a local government body that has the role of initiating and reviewing planning, land use and zoning matters, the City budget, municipal service delivery and many other advocacy matters relating to the welfare of East Harlem.
- East & Central Harlem District Public Health Office – As part of its commitment to reducing and eliminating health disparities in New York City, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has established District Public Health Offices. Residents can call their DPHO to find out more about neighborhood public health programs and for health statistics and other health-related information.
