Just Food connects NYC institutions, businesses, and individuals with sustainable small to mid-scale regional growers and trains community leaders as they work collectively toward a more economically viable and democratic food system, grounded in principles of cooperation, solidarity, and equity. Just Food continues to support over 120 CSAs, 30 Community-Run Farmers Markets, and train community members as chefs, advocates, and managers/operators of community food projects. These downstate market opportunities actively engage over 40 regional small-mid scale farmers/producers and provide critical aggregation relationships for many other growers. These sites also provide approximately more than 111,000 New Yorkers of diverse backgrounds with access to locally grown and healthy produce. From the local to the international level, Just Food continues to galvanize community members around equitable, regenerative food/farm and economic policies that impact our food systems, environment, and livelihoods. Just Food also provides technical assistance to our partners to learn how to make healthy food accessible and affordable. In total, these efforts have both increased regional farmer sales, strengthened urban/rural linkages, generated grassroots policy action, and provided some of our most vulnerable communities with fresh food.
