SUMMARY:Food Policy for Breakfast: Zoning and the City's Food System: Opportunities to Shape Healthier Food Environments in NYC
DESCRIPTION:Food Policy for Breakfast: Zoning and the City’s Food System: Opportunities to Shape Healthier Food Environments in NYC\n  \nBy shaping the built environment\, zoning can be a powerful tool to support a healthy\, diverse food environment. This panel discusses food-specific zoning initiatives like Food Retail Expansion to Support Health (FRESH)\, which provides incentives for developers to build supermarkets in communities lacking food retailers\, and Zone Green\, which facilitates rooftop agriculture. It also explores the zoning decisions that determine the location and types of food-related facilities in our communities and encourage the construction of affordable housing\, thus promoting community food security. \nRSVP>>\nPanelists: \nDaniel Hernandez\, Deputy Commissioner for Neighborhood Strategies of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development \nJavier Lopez\, Deputy Director of the Center for Health Equity\, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene \nShai Lauros\, Director of Community Development for Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation. \nModerated by Nevin Cohen\, Associate Professor\, CUNY School of Public Health\n\n\nRSVP>>\n\n\n\nProgramming begins promptly at 9:00am – arrive at 8:45 for coffee and open networking. \n*Note new location\, CUNY Graduate Center: 365 Fifth Avenue @34th Street\, New York\, NY 10016\, C201/C202/C203
